"We have demonstrated in many cases that those who operate in a prudent manner, can transform unfathomable crises into unrivalled opportunities." Capt. Nikolas S. Lemos

Andonis and Filippos Lemos are now writing a new chapter in the Group’s history, focusing on long-term strategic partnerships, whilst ensuring that the traditions and ethos that have made the Lemos Group what it is today continue to be respected and protected.
Combining Andonis and Filippos’ values-based leadership with a team of experienced and industry leading professionals the Group is well-placed to deal with the complex challenges facing the shipping industry.

A new outfit of the Group, Enesel Limited, established in Limassol operating the 14 ultra-large container vessels.

The Group entered the containership sector with the acquisition of four 9,800 TEU containership newbuildings in 2011 and ten 13,800 TEU vessels in 2012. The vessels, which were delivered between 2013 and 2014, are next-generation super-eco - four of which are equipped with a high- reefer capacity . The 14 vessels are all timechartered for 10 years - the 9,800 TEU units to Hamburg Sud and the 13,800 TEU vessels to Evergreen.

Avra Shipmanagement S.A. and Sealuck Shipping Corporation were merged to create Enesel S.A.

The Group took delivery of its first newbuilding VLCC, the ANTONIS, with a sister vessel, the KYRAKATINGO, added to the fleet a year later.

Sealuck Shipping Corporation was established in Piraeus to manage The Group’s tanker fleet.

Avra Shipmanagement S.A. placed a newbuilding order with Samsung Heavy Industries in South Korea, the first order by a Greek shipping group at that shipyard. The order comprised of two double-hull aframax tankers and two panamax bulk carriers, the IRENE, the SPYROS, the THALASSINI TYHI and the THALASSINI NIKI respectively.

N.S. Lemos & Co. Ltd., a continuation of Lemos & Pateras Ltd., was established in London by Nikolas S. Lemos.

The Group took delivery of the bulk carrier SPYROS A. LEMOS, which went on record as the first Greek-owned newbuilding to be constructed under the supervision of Det Norske Veritas (DNV).

Nikolas S. Lemos, son of Spyros A. Lemos, representing his family, established in Piraeus, Avra Shipping Agencies, which was later renamed Avra Shipmanagement S.A.

The family business, headed by Spyros A. Lemos and his brothers, took delivery of its first newbuilding vessel, the KYRAKATINGO followed by the CAPTANTONIS a year later. The two cargo ships were built at the world-renowned shipyards A.G. Weser in Bremerhaven.

With its entire fleet lost during the Second World War, the A.G. Lemos family acquired the ANTONIS. She was one of the 100 Liberty type ships bought by Greeks from the United States government.

Spyros A. Lemos, the son of Antonios G. Lemos, along with representatives from three other shipowning families of his native island, Oinousses, established Lemos & Pateras Ltd. in London.

Antonios G. Lemos acquired his first steamship, the ELENI. Along with ownership of the vessel, Antonios Lemos also undertook its management.

The family business was wound up and Antonios G. Lemos started his own enterprise in shipping. This new start was marked by the acquisition of the sailing ship GAROUFALIA, with two other sailing ships added to the fleet within the next four years.

Antonios, Constantis and Pantelis Lemos obtained their own sailing ship, the AVRA.

Georgios C. Lemos (“Papa-Lemos”) and his three sons, Antonios, Constantis and Pantelis, acquired a small share in the sailing ship EVANGELISTRIA.

We are proud to have a 170-year heritage within the shipping industry. What makes the Lemos Group unique is the family culture and values that have remained throughout the growth of the company, from about 1848 when Georgios C. Lemos ("Papa-Lemos") acquired a small share in a sailing ship until today where the Lemos Group companies operate a modern and diverse fleet of tankers and post-Panamax containerships. All existing vessels are constructed to the highest international standards in first-class shipyards. The entire fleet is chartered to high profile charterers and operators on both a voyage and time-charter basis. Understanding our history is understanding our company, culture and values.

Capt. Nikolas S. Lemos’ family originates from the largest Greek island (Oinousses or Egnousa) of the Oinousses complex, an island with deep maritime roots. The family’s records date back to the 19th century. In 1937 Lemos & Pateras Ltd. was established in London. Nearly fifty years later, in 1983, N.S. Lemos & Co. Ltd., a continuation of Lemos & Pateras Ltd., was established by Captain Nikolas S. Lemos, to act as agents for Avra Shipmanagement S.A. which was founded in the late 1950s, and subsequently for Sealuck Shipping Corporation, founded in 1993. Avra Shipmanagement S.A. and Sealuck Shipping Corporation were merged to create ENESEL S.A. in 2003.

During its long history, the Lemos Group has operated almost all types of dry cargo vessels, as well as container ships, multipurpose ships and Oil-Bulk-Ore vessels (OBO), and has had a significant presence in most large crude carrier segments.

Since its inception, the company has been guided by a philosophy of 'uncompromising commitment to safety, quality and constant improvement, supported by an unwavering focus on financial stability' and this has fueled our organic growth over the 170 years.

As our fleet has grown, so too has our team. Many of the Captains and crew members who worked onboard our vessels in the earlier years are now using their extensive industry knowledge and experience to lead the company as Managers and Directors. This demonstrates a loyalty which is rare in the shipping industry.
