Updated Statement
Limassol, November 24th, 2019

It is with great sadness that Enesel Limited, managers of container ship THALASSA PATRIS (IMO No 9665607, sailing under the flag of Singapore), report the following update regarding the search and rescue operation for their Second Officer who was reported missing yesterday November 23rd.

Despite the best efforts of the vessel’s officers and crew as well as the valuable assistance of the regional authorities, after 27 hours of searching, the missing seafarer has regrettably not been found.

The Second Officer was last seen after the change of watch at 22:00 UTC on November 22nd whilst the vessel was sailing in the Indian Ocean, south of India. As soon as the Second Officer was reported missing, the man overboard protocol was triggered and a search and rescue operation immediately commenced. The vessel, under the command of the pertinent authorities, retraced her route back to where she had been at the time of the change of watch.

At 08:43 UTC today, November 24th, the vessel was ordered by the Colombo MRCC to conclude the search and rescue operation and to continue with her voyage.

Enesel Limited have been in close contact with the Second Officer’s next of kin throughout this entire operation and will continue to do everything within their power to support the Second Officer’s family in this difficult time.

Enesel Limited will continue to work closely with all pertinent authorities to thoroughly investigate this tragic incident.
